The author

 I took up photography in 1969 as a way to express my love of nature. I thought it would be a swell way to earn a living being an adventurer.

After graduating from the New England School of Photography in 1977, I embarked on that imagined career, incorporating image-making into nearly everything that interested me.

I loved horses, so I bred Arabian horses and became an equine photographer. I loved travel, so I brought photographs home from my trips. I loved helping the land, so I worked in Holistic Management for many years, producing events on the land and photographing them. I loved reading and writing, so I wrote and photographed features for magazines and newspapers. I loved dogs, so I bred German Shorthaired Pointers and, later, Goldendoodles.

Once a master darkroom technician, I gladly traded the dim red light and poison chemicals for the digital darkroom. I see it as a portal to freedom in creating the images I see in my mind, if not necessarily through the viewfinder.

I call some of these images Unseen Realities: using photography’s illusion of truth to suggest realities just askew from this one. Another favorite ploy is letting the real world warp a bit as it slides into my lens and swims up through layers of Photoshop, where it can transition from real to surreal.

These days, I am still following my curiosity wherever it leads: exploring iPhone photography, painting, writing memoir and fiction, playing with images, contemplating consciousness and trying to pay attention to the astonishing world around me.

In 2026, one of those long journeys became my first book, The Real Life Adventures of a Hippie Chick Cowgirl, an illustrated memoir nine years in the making.

If something I write, photograph or create causes even one person to stop for a moment and notice the incredible wonder and beauty all around us, my mission will rejoice.
